We are about halfway through the month of January and about halfway there on Breyerfest model reveals! If recent trends hold we should be due four more special runs plus the name of the surprise run and four more limited editions, in particular the plush, the crystal, the stablemate, and the online store exclusive LE.
Now it is a special year so there may be more than that! It will be exciting to see.
So far the piece counts for each model look about the same as last year at 2000-2100 for the LEs and 2200-2500 for the SRs. The prices are trending the same to slightly higher. It will be interesting to see if there is a ticket price increase again this year too. I'm hoping not because at $100 each it's already getting steep for extras! I'm working on a series of posts on my thoughts about ticket strategy but that $50 extra per SR has to factor in.
At the moment my top two picks for special runs are the appaloosa Show Jumping Warmblood named Let The Good Times Roll and the blue deco Silver called To The Ties That Bind Us. I conga the SJW so he is a must have no matter what then add glossy and appaloosa?! Yes please. The Silver is really pretty - I am not totally sold on the silhouette markings thing they are doing this year but this is my favorite of them so far and he's a popular mold so I wouldn't want to risk it if I decide I like him more when I get there.
As far as the limited editions, if I decide to do a VIP ticket and have to pick two, so far my top two are the Welsh Cob and the Best of Breyerfest SM set. I collect the crystals so unless that one is something I just really don't like that will probably jump to the top.
Normally I conga the Cleveland Bay but I've been reducing the herd to mostly the braided or roached mane versions. This is also a really stupid pet peeve but I don't like how the chestnut streaks in his mane don't follow the hair flow of the sculpture. The paint work on the body is so nice but that one detail takes me right out of it. Totally a me thing I am sure - but we all have a thing.
I am glad that so far there is only one big time conga mold for me in the SJW because I'm definitely thinking there will be surprise limited variations this year so it will be great if I can focus my energy on just one or two. I was SWEATING it last year that we might have some because I conga literally all but one of the SR molds from last year (sorry Ashquar). What a relief when there were only the "normal" surprise variations - glossy/matte split and mane/tail variation or big enough split in the case of the Indian Pony (and actually not enough of a variation for me to need both).
I'm still holding my breath on the remaining SR to be revealed, but so far I don't think I'll really need more tickets than usual (2-3). Croi is a must have. I also like the SJW, but he may be a yes or no depending on what else we see. I like the mare and foal so they'll probably be a yes. I also like the silhouettes better on the Silver than the RR but unsure where I stand on him. He's similar to Liberty so my mom might decide she wants one. (I also wonder if they'll do a gold variant of him to represent both Breyer colors, I think I'd like that better.)
The LE are less enticing…
