Goals for the New Year

Happy New Year! I truly cannot believe a quarter of this century is already in the books.

It's a day for goal setting and although I've learned over the years not to be too hard on myself or obsessive about these goals it's still fun to set them and then reflect on them at the end of they year. Specifically for the hobby and my collection I like to set out some things I hope to achieve in the coming twelve months.
1: Sell 20% of my collection
This is a recurring goal every year. Many years ago, maybe it was even in the 90s, the Kovells had a TV show about collecting and their advice was to sell the bottom 20% of your collection every year. This does a few things. It keeps the quality up and ensures you are really focused on your best and favorite models. It keeps your collection size manageable, which is something I have struggled with in recent years. Finally, it generates some cash to spend on new models or other hobby goals.
2: Inventory my collection
This was also a goal in 2024 that I did not achieve... but I did start using Evernote and it has revolutionized my data organization. Now I am much better at keeping receipts and documentation so it should be much easier when I get in to the spreadsheet to fill it out. It's always a moving target because I do buy and sell throughout the year, but I really need to focus and get the majority of it recorded properly.
3: Organize and Display
As a corollary to my first goal - I want to get my collection size down to where there is room on the shelves to display them all. Right now I am completely out of space but also what is on the shelves is not any kind of organized right now so that also needs to get fixed (and should help with space issues). Especially I need to tackle my stablemates this year - I started on them last year but did not finish and they are literally everywhere, taking up space, and not at all organized or catalogued. I'm hoping to find a SM appropriate shelf or cabinet to get them in to their own area and off the regular shelves.
4: Art of the Horse
I'm hoping to enter the Art of the Horse contest this year for Equilocity. It has been years since I did any traditional painting or sculpture and I think this would be a fun way to step back in to that with a goal in mind.
5: Social Media
This blog is a start! I've always wanted to be more active on hobby social media, ever since the Blab groups sort of disbanded I haven't felt as connected to everyone. I've always wanted to do a blog so here it goes - and even if no one ever reads it, it is a nice way to me to journal. Similarly I love taking photos and also recording my collection so I'm hoping to keep that up on instagram (@sascocreekstables). I've also always wanted to start a YouTube channel - I've been nervous to start it, but I think it's one of those things you also just have to do and it will probably be terrible in the beginning but you have to start somewhere, so let's make this my year. If I can find the time though too...
6: Grails!
This week I was looking back on my old want lists and it's always cool to see that I have actually been able to find a lot of the models I thought would be impossible to get. I know I won't find the vast majority of these in 2025 but it's fun to put down the top 5 most wanted in my primary categories.
