The new year officially unofficially starts today - last week was still that sort of weird holiday time and it just doesn't feel right until we hit a Monday. Here we are! Let's take a look at what interesting things sold in the past week.
Last week saw the final installment of the Bonnie Ellis estate auctions, at least the model horse portion. There were still quite a few really nice pieces even in the very last round. For china collector there were some beautiful and rare Made With Love pieces that I would have loved to have taken home! But as always my main focus was on the Breyers, especially the vintage and rare.
A lot of people have been asking why in the world did this appaloosa Fighting Stallion go so high at 700?! Aren't the usually more like $50-150 depending on the variation? Yes, that is the usual going rate but I had my eye on this one too because he is the rarest variation, not only because of the full body spots (which are amazing) but because they also go all the way around his barrel including the underside. If you take a look at most of these, the vast majority only have spots on the sides and back. I put a picture of my own full body spot variation down below as a comparison. It is a really subtle nuance that makes a big difference in value! I'm hoping to eventually find one that goes under the radar on eBay or elsewhere

And a few of the others I was watching. The NIB Stormy is very cool - the shrinkwrap box is one of the rarest boxes to find intact and Stormy is such an icon. I thought for sure this would go over $1000. The Silver Filigree Proud Arabian Mare is also such a historically significant icon as the very first Breyerfest judges model (now volunteer model), the very first silver filigree, and the PAM! Only 30 were made and she's been selling around $3000 so this is in line. Quarantini is another favorite color on a vintage icon. He was the table centerpiece raffle at the Seattle Soiree event and only 20 were made - not surprising to see him fetch this price either. Noddy I threw on there because I've been surprised he's been going this high, but I guess I shouldn't be that surprised. He was only made for six months in 2004 and the Old Timer is also a popular vintage mold. Another NIB one sold recently on eBay for $225

Not part of the Dosland auction but also on HiBid this week was this super rare Ford Pinto Family Arabian Foal. They were made for Ford Motors as salesman awards (many are mounted on a wooden base with the Ford Pinto logo on it) and so not only was the model very limited, like most special runs that were not made specifically for the hobby they are especially hard to find. Not to mention being 55 years old now, wow. This one is a grail for me too.

Over on eBay this woodgrain Fury Prancer sold for 799 - he had a bit of bubbling, not uncommon for vintage woodgrains. But what a difference a sticker makes, amiright?! If you recall last week we had one on here with a tenite sticker which sold for 3500.

This flocked ASBW rocking horse from 1985 went for 275. These are also getting very hard to come by, especially in such nice condition. I think it was a BIN and maybe could have gone higher

This set, also from Sears in 1984, I thought was really cool because it had the original box with the line art. You don't see that too often and it's pretty cute with this family on it. This was also a BIN.

Sand Dollar remains one of the most popular from the Connoisseur series and this one went for 1125 this week and he did come with the COA

And finally Alborozo continues to be on the upswing and a NIB one sold for $1000 this week.
Not much to report in the primary markets, although I noticed Legend is currently at 34.77 on Amazon which is a great price if you're looking for this fellow:

Wow!! If I hadn't gotten the black appy rocker in 2021 I'd be falling all over that one! Such a great price! The market was definitely a bit higher at the time and within less than a year I grabbed all 3 SR - Black Appy 650 (spring), Purple 1055 (late fall), White 700 (around the holidays). The white one was offered to me directly but the other 2 there were at least a couple of other folks offering/bidding (less so with the appy and more so with the purple, but I was determined!)
